SP 500 Water bogged
#1
I was riding threw a large water hole today when my 2000 SP500 turned over in a trinch, the engine was totally under water. The engine ran until I got it out of the hole THEN. It would not go anywhere. I would give it gas and it would rev up but it would not move. After aprox 1 hour I had a friend push me while I was giving it gas. It finally came back to life. I am not sure what I did, also what kind a maintance do I need to do after all of this.. GRP

I agree with Chickenman, you probably got water in the belt which causes it to slip. The PVT system has a vent snorkel that extends up near the gas tank. If you take water over that point, the belt is going to slip. If I were you, I would change the engine oil and gear box oils just to be safe. No need to ruin a new machine over a few dollars spent on new oil. I would also give the machine a good grease job to push any water out of the greaseable fittings.

I also have a 500sp that I got water in the pvt case. A week later I was riding and the belt broke. My dealer said the water rusted the clutch,it didn't work properly and broke the belt. I don't know if this is totally so but I do know I don't want to do it again. I don't want to avoid the fun either. Can you and is there a snorkel for the pvt case? I see people talk about the magnum snorkels. Is one for the case? Where do I get them? Any help on this would be great. I was also given the same advice by my dealer about neutral and revving it for a minute. Thanks.

ditch;I'm no mechanic far from it really. But I can't see rust piling up fast enough in a week to cause you any damage. It would only be superfical in a weeks time a month or two maybe. As I say maybe I'm the one thats all wet.Been times that I've got my thing wet and not got to use it for a week and it worked ok.OOOPS not the same thing, sorry about that got carried away.CM
