recent passage of house bill 231 allows farmers to ride with no registration on any two lane road in the state of kentucky. the sec of transportation says this may possibly result in a policy change toward on road registration. at the county clerks convention in june, a decision will be made and communicated at that time. if you live in the state of kentucky and would like to have the advantages of a street legal atv, now is the time to act, as the decision on policy is going to be made by the end of this month. if you would like to help, let me know. thanks

It's not just farmers who are allowed to ride. It is anyone who is engaged in snow removal, construction, road repair In other words if you need to go from your house to a friend or families place to help them with just about any kind of work you could ride on the road to get there. I road mine for 20 miles to do some riding on some property we have. I passed two differant officers, all they did was wave. how cool! Are we the only state that allows 4-wheelers to ride unregistered on any road in the state? (no 3-4 lane highway riding) Hell you don't even have to have a helmet on.

They had an article in the Paducah(KY) paper yesterday, but it didn't tell much. I'm from Calvert City also. We should get together and do some riding.

You guys are lucky down there! Up here you need plates and all kinds of things just to cross the street! Boy would the government make a lot of money making quads street legal...taxes, permits, insurances, etc...

I live about 20 miles south of Lou. KY, tell me more. I've not heard anything about this, sounds interesting. Are you saying as long as you are on your way to help someone your legal?

house bill 231 does no take effect till mid july of this year. if the cops did not pull you over they were being awful nice. The bill also states you must wear a helmut unless you are engaged in one of the listed activities. another interesting part of the bill which states you now will have the right to cross the highway to get from one property to another. if you are riding for fun you can take up to two tenths of a mile to get across the road. so it might raise the issue if you happen to see a cop to just pull off the road and say you just trying to get across the road. of course you would still need a helmut on. but for those of us in this area just think of riding lbl if you had a vehicle license. over 300 miles of roads and trails.

Well here is a cops view point ride the heck out of em as long as you are not acting crazy, speeding, doing wheelies and stuff like that I have no problem with it here in WV. I see no reason for registering them either it isn't like they get enough of your money me and the guys I work with have no problem with anybody riding on the road as long as they are not doing any of the above or riding intoxicated. Really when you think about it they let those 3 wheelers you know the ones with 750cc engines plus ride on the highway and they are lot more dangerous than a 4 wheeler, so the idea sounds great to me most of the people around here who get in trouble on 4 wheelers are the ones that are riding constantly up and down the road flying in front of some old peoples house or are speeding or showing off in traffic, they are always a few who ruin it for the rest.
