Er, um, the names have been changed to protect the inocent. I didn't do it, you can't prove it.....and I won't do it again.

I know for certain 4wd will not work w/o a small battey in mine but I do remember my mechanic saying he was suprised at that because the newer ones he had no problem w/. There was a difference in some electrical component he was talking about like a voltage regulator, transformer, diode bridge or some term like that. It was about 5 years ago. My quad was actually built in 97 even though it's a 98. If yours is a later year 98 production you may be ok. He said he tought they changed mid year. This mechanic Justin at Moodies sales in Mars Pa is REALLY good & electrically knowledgeable. He knew what current was needed for the 4wd, found the light weight battery etc. He hooked up my reverse light to light up when the fan would have turned on since he removed my fan & reverse override & stuff like that.

I'm going through the same thing now. reverse override is acting weird - sometimes you dont even need to use it other times as soon as you shift into reverse it will cut out the engine at idle. Also 4x4 worked intermittantly now it doesnt work at all. I got a polaris manual and a crash course on electronics from a friend. I'm starting testing at the battery and working thru the system from there.
Jim, I like what your mechanic did and got rid of the reverse override. To many electronics on the quad for me - just more places for problems to occur.
Well, I'm hopeful it will just be a bad battery after reading these postings.

Mine's a 99 so I hope it is the battery, I plan on replacing it this weekend. I will post again and let you know what I find out. I tell you what the scramblers are useless in the snow with only two wheel drive. Hey Jim don't let these guys get you down, I like the scrambler It looks like you have spent some time on it. Does anyone have black plastics.. I have black and have never seen another like mine.

Modquad is a great guy, he's just yankin' on my pull starter. Thanks for the compliment. If your looking for a really cool black quad check out Modquads ride at http://www.jetblastgear.com/ & go to his picture gallery section. We all can only hope to be as famous as him. His claim to fame is he was featured in ATV Sport magazine, maybe you saw it. That's when I knew I had to get the HPD race pipe after I saw his article. Cool ride.

The battery died on my 98 and I blew all the lights but I still had 4wd. Mine was a late 98 whether or not that had anything to do with it. BTW it cost about $75 to purchase all the bulbs at the dealer

Hey easteregg you can get all the bulbs except the dash bulbs at AutoZone for around $30.
