Default AAEN carb in a scrambler?

Does anyone have a 42mm carb in their scrammy? and if so, is it worth it?

I have the 38TMX on my 400 and I really have mixed feelings about it. I can tell that it woke up the power a little, but the thing is hard as heck to get jetted and set up correctly. My opinion, I would spend that same money toward something else to get performance if that is what you are after. But, I do like Aaen and their way of business and the support they provide. I would look at maybe a high compression piston and head porting. JMO.

On the 500, the 42 is a good package upgrade. Like NC said, Aaen has some great service/support. You can talk with Olav on what is the best bang for the buck. On the modded 400's you almost have to install a leaner cut slide, along with a richer needle. They'll know what to do.

Beware of the 42 TMX carb. I asked the same question on several different forums and did not receive any positive feedback. Hot seat performance used to offer this carb but there were too many jetting problems with it so they discontiued it. I am told that it will work better if you also add the cam, piston and valves to make allowance for the increase in gas from the tmx, otherwise it is a waste of money to add bigger carb without the modifications, and jetting is a nightmare. some people who added this carb had flat spots across the rpm range. I have searched for positive feedback on adding this carb to a stock engine but not enough people have had luck for me to shell out $300.00. Do your research before you spend that kind of money. Also the people with the 2 strokes have a better set-up to add a carb due to the 2 stroke design where the 4 stroke requires more precision calibration. Unless you are a master at jetting I would avoid it.
