Scrambler 400 vs. Scrambler 500
#1
Next summer I am going to trade my 325 magnum on a new poaris. I thought about a predator but wanted 4wd. So i looked at the scramblers. How do they compare in performance and handling? any info is appreciated.

As far as 4wd goes unless Polaris offers a specail edition[like the x] you will be stuck with the 500.Either one of the scramblers will run circles around your Magnum. It all depends on how fast you want to go.You can very cheaply mod the 400.Find an '03 scrambler 400x 4wd and trade off your Magnum on it, you will be VERY happy. If you are a 4-stroke only guy, your stuck with the 500.Good luck.

Like the others said, THey are VERY VERY CLOSE in stock form, and if you plan to buy new the 500 will be the only one available. They stoped making the Regular 400 4x4 scrambler in 2000.
Them main difference I would say is do you plan to MOD or stay stock.
If you plan to stay stock I would say 500 all the way, It is just a great well rounded machine.
If you plan to Mod, then looking for a nice used 400 would be the way to go, the 400 responds so much more to mods and will give you more bang for the buck.

I'd say get the 500. It's only major fault is it's weight, it's way over 500 pounds but most large four by fours are. It has a lot of power and will go through most any mud. Watch it though, it will sling mud everywhere with those short fenders. That's just part of the fun for me though. They will also climb hills like crazy. I think they'll run about 62 to 65 wideopen so there pretty fast for a heavy 4 by 4.
