K&N Filter Power
#1
Just wondering if the K&N filter kit with Jetting is worth the $130 Highlifter wants. I would be putting it in the Mag 500. Is there really a 15% power boost like they claim.? That would be cheap horsepower. Any one with the kit installed out there? I would appreciate any info.

I have installed the filter and jet kit on my Scrambler. It won't make a very noticeable difference, but few things really do on a 4-stroke. Building power is more of a gradual process. The jet kit seemed to make throttle response a little better, but not enough to justify the price. The kit I got only came with stock and smaller jets, so when I added a pipe I had to buy new jets again. If I had to do it over I'd just get the filter and put the rest of my money towards a pipe or clutch kit.

Buy a UNI filter for about $20 (that flows the same amount of air and you won't have to worry about an outerwear and dust passing through if maintained correctly). Next, as the people at UNI recommend, up the jet size on a stock machine 2 sizes (example 148 goes to a 150). Next, raise your needle jet up (or the clip down) which richens the fuel mixture a bit (optional-if your mechanical ability permit's this). Grand total if you do the work yourself - $20 for filter + $5 for main jet + changing needle jet position for free (optional-but dyno-jet assumes that you can do this also) + $8 for good performance filter oil (in aerosol form) =$33 + $10 shipping and you will get the same results for around $50.
