Don't forget the Scrambler, it's sportier than either of the 2 you mentioned but might not be as good utility-wise. The SP500 is a pretty dang good machine, one of the ATV mags had a small review of the 500 in the June issue....saw it in the store

We used the 500 for about two years for snow removal and it was also used for hunting. Then it was taken to the sand dunes and it could keep up but is was not going to win any races. It was all kept stock and no modifications. Just traded it in this year on a 700, has lots more power and the only mod so far is a gun case mounted on the side.lol

I got a buddy that has a 1999 Scrambler 500 4x4 for sale - CHEAP. $1900 worth of cheap. Real great shape too. He is selling it because his chain broke (jumping off of a curb onto the highway) and it busted the tranny case. He replaced everything, new chain, a few parts in the tranny, case, and it now has a little whine too it when the braking system works when slowing down. If I had the money, I'd buy it for my wife. Its a real nice looking atv too. Front and rear racks. He is the kind of guy I think that riding sounded fun for a while and then it got to be too much of a hassle. He lives in town and has to drive a ways to go riding.

If you want to go thru the woods - over logs , thru mud etc. , put a 200lb deer on the back and make it back to your truck.... The sportsman the way to go, it's a cross between a mule and a quarter horse. It'll do almost anything you could ask of it.

When I got my 400 xplorer I took it up to a friends hunting camp and took it thru the woods, I mean straight thru, as in - as straight a line as posible - over deadfalls, thru bogs, thru popple thickets, I was going 15' logs, over 2-3" saplings, the front rides up and pushes the tree down and over you go. I've loaded two deer and my hunting partner and didn't have any issue's getting out(that's when we nicknamed it pepe the mule).
As impressive as that machine is, my 600 sport is even better, more power, more carrying capicity (although it weighs more). It can tear up the trails pretty good too.

We've got three of em. I would recommend one over ANY other ute. Good power, ground clearance, stock tires. Plus IRS and an excellent ride. Not only that, AMERICAN made. What more could you ask for???
