Default 400ex or 500 scrambler 4x4

I was wondering what would be a good quad for me I want something fairly fast but good in mud because where i live is almost always in mud. and reverse would be real nice to have too. Also is the top speeds on the both of them close. Is the scrambler as dependable as the 400ex. I know this is a stupid question but do scramblers have high low range or just high range. thanks

The scram 5004x4 and 400EX are ver close in performance. The 400 EX will probably edge out the scram in top end, but only by a few MPH. Trust me, when it gets rough, the 4x4 and reverse makes a world of difference. My scram has been very reliable. It has never left me stranded. The only problems that I have had are normal wear and tear and some things that were my own fault The scram is a very capable anf fun all around ATV

Sounds like the type of fun you are looking for, you want the benefits of the Scrambler 500! 4x4 and reverse is hard to beat, especially if you like playing in mud. As far as speed goes, the 400ex will prob. accel faster due to lightweight, but the scrammy might actually have a slightly higher top-end. Nothing a hotseat or HPD pipe can't fix!! For your needs, go with the Scrambler. If you're rarely in the mud & rarely need reverse, then the 400EX is a much better quad. It's light enough to turn it around manually. It's a funner quad to ride too.

As long as you don't NEED 4X4, the Z would be an excellent choice...have fun!

I love my z but if you're going to be in a lot of deep mud get the scrambler. I mean there pretty darn fast and have lots of power. Trust me my z won't go through shiz as far as mud goes. If you hit a mud pit at about 30mph you might make it but mine don't like the mud. Although if it's just like mud puddles or is just a few inches deep the z would be a lot more fun than the scrambler because of it's power and light weight. You can throw the z around and powerslide like crazy and they'll do a heck of a doughnut. I'd still get the scrambler just so I could bust through the deep mud. I had to sit and watch my brother and friends play in a big mud pit down here by my house for over an hour before we hit the trails again, because I couldn't come close to making it through it. I was wanting to come home and get my rancher to dive in that pit. When we got back on the trails I was loving the z400 again as I blazed around the twisty trails and made them eat roost. A scrambler would have been a good solution for me that day. I may trade my rancher for a used one, peace.
