Predator Ride height
#1
I was at my Polaris Dealer today and they had a new Predator sitting across from the parts counter and while I was waiten on the parts guy I was admiring the new one, I noticed how much taller there Predator looked compared to mine. So when I got home I measured mine. I measured straight down to the floor right between the left foot peg and the shifter. It was 8 1/2 inches without me on it from the floor to the bottom of the frame. Would somebody measure the height of their predator and post it. I'm just curious to see how much my setup varies from some of yours.

For the preload, it's kinda of a rule of thumb to have 30% free sag of total travel...I.E., since the pred has 11 in. of travel, it should have about 3 inches of free sag. Lift the suspension all the way up and measure a point straight above the rear axle. Then let the suspension drop, and under the machines own weight, there should be 3" difference in height. Same goes for the front, but you may want the front more like 2 3/4 in., unless you take the top out spacer out of the front shocks.
Ive seen some people argue the the 3 inches should be measured at ride height as opposed to free sag. Ride height is the difference in heights with the rider seated on machine with full gear. This is probably the way to do it if you ride motocross as it is a stiff setting and offers extreme hookup. But for trail and XC riders, I would measure the difference using free sag, with no rider on the seat. It offers a softer ride, lower center of gravity, and I have had no problems with bottoming taking large jumps.

Hey Pudljumpr I think you misunderstood what I was asking...If you take my quad and set it beside a brand new one I'm sure mines going to be lower overall. From the bottom of the frame to the ground
it just appears mine sits about 3 o 4 inches lower than a new one..this is due partly to the fact I'm running 19in and 18in tires. I was just curious about that not shock setup.

Geoff,
My dealer was saying today they expect mine to be in sometime around the 15th.
Have you heard if the new frame are reinforced in that area at all?
Also curious if your quad was still cover'd under the 6 month warrenty? My 6 month warrenty had just expired like a week and a half before I found the crack, but seeing how Polaris is a good company that stands behind the products their going to fix free of charge even though its techincally out of warrenty.
I welded mine back together and gusset'd it on the top and bottom of the rail around the bolt holes for the tank brace. I'm heading to my favorite track tomarrow to ride so I guess I'll see if it holds together.
Later;
Joe

G'day Joe.
I haven't heard about any changes to the frame as yet.
Mine is under warranty.
I'm also trying out the weld job tommorrow at the track.
I reckon it may of fractured from the twisting not vertical stresses.
Glad to here Polaris are doing the right thing.
Good luck tomorrow, Geoff.
