Scrambler Gen III H.O
#1
Hey all, can anyone tell me what is meant by "Gen III". I'm looking at purchasing some bolt on bits for my 98 H.O 500 scrambler and I have been seeing quite a few references to the Gen III and Gen IV. Is the 98 H.O a gen III ?. How do I differentiate between models?. Also does anyone know if there is any difference between the 1998 scramblers (500 H.O) through to the 2001/2002 models.

Yes, the GenIII are the scramblers'sports/trailblazers while the GenIV are the sportsmans. There were some changes made to the scramblers through the years. The 98 500 scram was the first year for the 500HO engine as well as the concentric drive. In "99 they changed to red plastic. In "00 they changed to the "long travel" suspension. In '01 they upgraded the brakes with better calipers, rotors, and stainless steel lines, as well as an upgraded tie rod ends and steering post bearing. In '03 the scram was only available as the 500 4x4. They changed the plastic to metallic blue with yellow chassis componets. If I left anything out someone please chime in.

Your the Man! Cheers mate. Another question for you, do you know if the upgraded brake package from the 2001 model will bolt on to my 98 500?
Keep up the good work dude.

Polaris has a brake upgrade package that includes new rotors and brake pads. However, you can get EBC pads and rotors for a better price through Rocky MT ATV If your calipers are still in good condition, then you can get the new master cylinders, S.S. lines, and junction box through your dealer or at Partsland
