I am hoping someone can help me. I have a '97 Polaris 500 XPlorer. I can hear the drive belt rubbing the plastic case. It has an bolts to adjust the cover, but nothing seems to entirely fix the problem. Any ideas???
Also, the rear brakes squeel terribly when they get wet. Pads are good. When I lubricate the spline that the rotor floats on, it helps. I can't seem to narrow it down. Any help would be appreciated...Rob

The older clutch covers were very thin and very close to the clutches. Heat over time will shrink the cover and also inadvertadently pushing up against the cover when riding will cause it to rub. You have two choices, put up with it as long as you can until it rubs a hole through or replace it with a 2001 or newer cover. 2001 and up on the 500's got an updated cover which is thicker and slightly further away from the clutches, the outlet size was also increased to allow better cooling. In 2003 the cover's got a drain plug added. My cover has been rubbing for about 2 years now and finally the last time I went riding it wore a hole through. Sorry, can't help with the brakes.
