Sounds like the cover is a little warped and rubbing the clutches. Yes it is ok to drive. The older scramblers had weaker covers and warp easy with heat. They have an upgraded cover with thicker plastic and a drain at the bottom. You can push down, pull up and try to move the cover around to see if it gets worse or better. This will tell you if that is it.

besides upgrading the cover, are you doing alot of slow speed cruising, heavy pulling, climbing etc.. this could be causing the temps to be running high along with improper or worn clutching

You have to get the covers at your dealer. You have to replace the inner and outer cover, which are about $90 a piece. It also requires the removal of both clutchs. You may not need a puller for the secondary, but you definately will need one for the primary clutch.

HEY, I'M NOT POINTING FINGERS ITS JUST THAT CLIMBING WITH A HIGH RANGE ONLY MACHINE CAN CAUSE SOME HIGHER TEMPS IN THE CLUTCHS RESULTING IN WARPED COVER
