Hi fellas,

I read a lot of your posts last night to research the 500 scrammy. There is good info on the site.

I bought my '00 500 scrammy today. I have only ever rode my '87 trailboss. The 500 is awesome, but it is HEAVY. I got it stuck tonight, it was not pretty. I swear it was 2' of quick sand. I will improve my riding skills because digging that beast out is not fun.

Is the 400 scrammy as heavy as the 500? See ya fellas.

The 400 is about 30 pounds lighter due to the 2-stroke motor. My advice to you is the same I keep telling myself, "gotta get a winch!" That will definately be my next purchase now that I have my new tires.

Man, that must have been some nasty stuff. I have yet tom get mine stuck. Hopefully I wont, cuz I have the only 4x4 in the group. I am the gueni pig that has to find out how deep the puddle is before anyone else will go further. If you have any questions we are here to help. There are many of us that have "been there done that" and know what works and doesn't. And Welcome as well.

Thanks for the replys fellas. I should have asked one more important question:

I rinsed the mud off of my quad, what is the proper way to clean these things? Should I rinse it with a hose then lube everything? I am sure I got a few things wet that typically shouldn't be.

I felt like tommy boy when he fell in the mud trying to tip that cow.

BTW, nice quads. I looked at your guys pics section, very impressive.

Just don't use any real high pressure water, keep water out of your muffler....I just use a regular garden hose and a washer mitt. I'll then take a chamois and dry it and then I'll take some Formula 2001 and spray on it and wipe it down for a nice shine.....and it keeps the mud from sticking to the quad some much....

Use a stiff NYLON brush (or get a chain scrubber) for the chain.....I'll lube my chain after every wash with some Maxima chain wax and I'll grease things every couple of rides or so.

Welcome and thanks for the kind words......these guys around here really know their stuff, don't be afraid to ask questions.

Trust me on this one. Get some Simple Green. It is biodegradable and when you use it in pure concentrated form, it works GREAT. It does a great job of getting a lot of the hard to reach places. I just use some car wash soap and a garden hose. DO NOT use high pressure water on the chain. Also, I got a Uneek Chain scrubber for $20. That thing does an great jovb of cleaning the chain. Then I hit it and the the tie rod ends with some Tri Flow with Teflon. And I grease it every other ride, more often if I do a lot of water or mud riddin. Thanks for the complements too.
