Default HELP! - Scrambler VIN

I just picked up a 1997 Polaris Scrambler 400 4X4 and I'm trying to fine the VIN number to get it registred. I though the seven numbers stamped into frame under the seat was the VIN number but the lady at the DMV told me there should be 17 numbers. Can anybody shed some light here?

Default HELP! - Scrambler VIN

About how many numbers are in your VIN number? Using the Polaris the book I found the seven didget frame number under the seat stamped into the frame. THE lady at the DMV said there should be 17 numbers, I think she's wrong as I've bee all over this machine and did'nt come up with a 17 didget number any where.

Mine was on the sticker on the nose piece, but I took that off. I should also be on the frame on the side right behind the a-arm, like the others stated. It is a 17 digit number
