Default help with my 95, and anyone know

I have a 95 Scrambler 4x4, I was out riding yesterday and I seem to have a problem I am hoping I can get some advice on. At first it runs just fine but soon looses power and I get a lot of heat from both sides of the motor. It feels as if it needs to get the rpm's up before it will kick in then does not have much on the top end. Throttle responce is poor. I have never done a rebuild but did mill the head way back when it was new and run a Aeen pipe and also have a clutch kit from RCR. Anyone have any suggestions?? Also anyone know how to change the nickname on this thing I misspeled it and would like to change it but when I go to the profile page I cant find where to change it. thanks

First check all your basic maint. items. Fuel and oil filters are on the LH side of the fuel tank. Cheap and easy to change. Clean your air filter. There is a 16 or 17mm nut on the bottom of the carb, you can remove that and make sure you don't have any excess sediment. Turn the fuel valve off before you remove that. Double check your coolant level. When was the last time you changed that? Also do you backflush (with garden hose pressure only, not a pressure washer) your radiator cooling fins? Also, possibly related to your bogging, have you had the clutch cover off lately to blow out the clutches, and check your belt tension. Your Polaris dealer has a nice service manual that can very easily walk you through any maint. on your machine.

I don't think you can change your name, I think you must re-register again. I would also add to Modquad's post that if you are running the stock piston, check your compression. The factory piston is bad to break the skirt and will cause all kinds of heck. Your compression should be at least 115 psi. Also, check your oil pump adjustment, choke adjustment, and throttle/ idle adjustment.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the Scrambler came out as a 500 untill 1998.

it is a 400 the first year they were made, NC think you are right the 500 came out in late 97 as a 98. Anyway I will not have a chance to look at it untill the weekend. I think it may be time for a top end rebuild. It has also been pretty hot here in the mid to upper 90's so I think that may also be a problem.
