Default tach for scrambler???

I want to get a tach to monitor my idle RPMs and clutch RPMs. I found that Cabelas has a Tiny Tach for $40. But on Tiny Tachs website they say that it won't work for Polaris's. So I found that HSP has a digiatal tach for $60 and Aaen has one form $55 and Polaris has theirs for $50. Has anyone gotten the one from Cabelas and had it work on a Polaris? I assume that the tachs from Aaen, HSP, and Polaris are the ones that one wire goes to ground and the other clips onto the spark plug wire? Any input on which one I should get???

Yeah, but they are $100 though. I just need something to monitor my idle and clutch engagement.

Mine are made by Westach . They are actually for ultralite planes but will wire correctly for a few applications . They seem to operate smoothly and consistantly but I have seen them fail as well in ATV environments . My advise is to use them as a tool and not a permenent fixture on your quad . Have an easy way to hook and unhook the wires and then an easy to remove attach point as well . Use a tach for tuning purposes and when you are out in mud , water , snow , and the like, put it away in a safe place so it will have a long life .

Think of it as a tool ..... Not a bolt on accessory .. This will insure your tach has a long life .

I use westach analoge (needle and a dial) guages because I can see from the seat at a glance where I am reving too , I can't read a digital guage as well .

Rick

Thanks Rook, but unfortunately that tach won't work on the 500's. 2 Stroke only. The Tiny Tach will work on the Polaris, they just haven't updated their site to reflect that, but like Rick said the analog is much easier to read and doesn't lag behind like the digital one will. I have a Westach EGT gauge and it is very nice and accurate, should be worth the money in my opinion.

Unless you want to spend some serious ching on an Exhaust Gas Tech recording digital tach....I'd go with Rick's deal, or do like NC did. The tiny tachs are sooooo slow to react. I'm waiting on a bracket for my new digital unit, but it's actually too fast for tuning. Mainly gives you a programable LED shift indication point, and a max rpm memory. Like Rick suggest about leaving the tachs on. The VDO unit that HPD used to sell, has been permanently mounted on the Sport, and has been through tons of crap....always works. I think the unit Rick sells is similar, so buy with confidence...he sells good gear.
