Scrambler 500 cvt acting up
#1
I purchased an epi kit for my scrambler 500 and installed in according to the instructions and it seemed to work almost perfect. When topping out the clutch seemed to let go and then catch and pull for a bit then let go... On the trails it was wild and jumpy and worked perfect. Then the kit blew all 3 buttons on the secondary clutch after a long fall and winter season, (they may have been worn) I replaced them and put in the stock helix) Worked about the same as before. Decided to go back to stock everything, springs, weights, and helix. Put back together, now it is junk. does not move much, bogging lagging jumping, slipping, all kinds of stuff but not what it is supposed to.....Please Help....What is wrong with my quad?

An aggressive clutch kit will wear on buttons, that is normal.
When you put your secondary clutch back together, you probaly didn't set the tension right. Did you remember to twist it 1/3 before pushing the helix in and putting the snap ring on?
Once I didn't get the full 1/3, and rode it, and it did exactly what you are saying until I fixed it.

Oh yeah i got the 1/3 down pat. I now see that on my primary there seems to be some play. With the spring removed i can slide it back and forth but if I try to slide it with presure from one side it is kinda catching sort of? It moves but not smoothly. I see the play coming from the sliding part of the triangle ninja star thing. I have no idea how to get rid of the play. I am thinking that the sliders are wearing thin.???

There are also buttons in the primary clutch, this could be the problem. However, I haven't had trouble with mine YET, so I haven't tanken it apart. In other words, that might be the problem, but I am not certain.
Aaen makes a roller clutch for the secondary. It replaces the buttons with bearings. Less friction, no more worn buttons. However, it is pretty expensive. You could replace a lot of buttons for the cost of a roller kit. I heard they might be making one for the primary in the future as well.
Good luck getting it worked out.
