Here goes. I am posting this in here because I know that everybody passes through the Polaris forum.

I want to buy another ATV and make it totally street legal.I am inquiring into the legal aspects tomorrow. Which quad would be the best for this? I would suppose a 2x4 would be better on asphalt. 4-stroke or 2-stroke? I was thinking either 400ex or (soon to be)Scrambler2x4 500. It would have to be smooth and have great handling for the roads. My 26" tires on my Xplorer would definately not do the trick!

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. I thought this would be a great reason to get a Honda, seeing as how I love my Scrambler and Xplorer for the trails.

 

Does your Canadian province permit quads on public roads and streets? Seems like the legal requirements would drive your choice of initial platform.

If differentials are an issue, the Kawasaki Bayou 300 (2WD) is the only ATV available with a rear differential, and advantage on paved roads.

What type of roads seasonal use, downtown or the highway at 100 kph. I have been to Spain where it is legal and Banshee seemed to be the preferred machine however thats all I saw. Couldnt get past the language barrier for more info. Some people have all the luck.

To answer your questions; I want it to ride on all roads except for highways. 120 kilometers per hour is kinda fast for me. I did my best today with the authorities and other governmental offices but just got into a fight with the guy. He is part of the engineering department of the "people" who make the decisions. He was a total no-brain idiot! He kept saying that no matter what I said he would refuse my demand. Said that an ATV was not intended for road driving. Didn't even take into consideration that it would be modified for street use. He was really ignorant.

Tomorrow I am calling his supervisor to get real answers. Up here I have seen a lot of "T-Rex's"...it's a motorcycle with two front wheels and you sit low to the ground like a go-cart. They are street legal...dangerous but street legal. I am really gonna take this one to the end. I really want to be able to go around town on my quad.

 

I looked into it with the motor vehicle dept. and the rules go as follows:
There has to be a brake caliper on every wheel,
There has to be blinkers on it,
There has to be mirrors on it,
There has to be tires made for highway use.
Then they would consider a registration, and You have to register it as home made. So it would be a 2000 model and have to pass any regulations they have for the year 2000.
I think it could be done. Your regulations could be different where you live.
I just thought it would be a lot saver than some of these half VW and half motorcycles I've seen on the road.

I don't know about you guys,but,down here in Phoenix,AZ.I see a lot of street legal quads/three-wheelers.At my school(I am in 8th)I see a guy all the time come pick up his son on his ATC200X,all it has is a license plate on it with a head and taillight.I have also seen a sportsman and a scrambler like this.In fact,the other night me and my Dad were coming home and it was about midnight when we saw this scrambler 500 going by,flying.We decided to chase it to check it out,it was doing about 60 then it pulled into a circle k.And all it had was a license plate with a license plate light.I like this and my Dad is even thinking about going down to get our 200X street legal(this thing has a lot of mods and will haul!!)Anyways,just thought you guys might want to know.And Phoenix is not small(not close)I know in small towns they don't care,guess we just got lucky.HAHAHAHAHA(just playin)
