Default Pilot Jet

Can anyone help me with the pilot jet and needle on a 02 400. I have a FMF Gnarly pipe and when I try to take off from an idle it bogs for a second. It runs great top end, but if I start climbing steep stuff on the trails it acts like it loads up and bogs as well. I have a 270 main jet and the stock pilot in there now. I went on the FMF website and the show a 35 pilot and a 6CEY6-3 needle. Anybody have any idea what the stock pilot is? I also have kevlar belt with an hpd trail clutch kit. It seems to make it bog with the kevlar belt on there. Any one had this problem with the kevlar belt. I really like it because of all the hill climbing that I do because it lasts a lot longer than the rubber belt. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Junkie
I have the same problem as you stumbles when I give it gas for about 10 ft then after that it screams.it really sucks if I need to stop on a hill and take off again,I need to almost powerbreak it to get it going again do you have any ideas????

im pretty sure the stock piolet is a 40 so a 35 would make it leaner therefore fixing your bog on bottom end . if the piolet doesnt help then i would get a clutch kit $36.95 from www.nacsracing.com/polarisprod.htm

Dropped the pilot jet down to a 35 and it still boggs off the start any other suggestions????

I can tell you that FMF is not the best pipe for Polaris. When you buy a pipe you must buy a clutch kit to match the powerband of the pipe but unfortunately fmf does not make a clutch kit to match. This makes it very hard to tune the pipe,clutch and carburator to work together. Thats why most people go with companies that spacificley deal with Polaris to match all components to work together and get the most HP to the ground. It is now just trial and error for you to make it all work together. Also the bogg problem is not always because of the carb but can also be in the clutch. If it is wound to tight it will not let the belt enguage the way it is supposed to. This is where you can get a bog off the line but once you get momentum and the powerband kicks in, it will fly. Thats why a clutch kit is so important. It needs to shift out with the powerband.

That 270 main sounds a little rich to me. It's good to have it a little rich on the pilot cause that keeps it cooler when at slower speeds. It also sounds like it may be a little on the needle. If you load it up such as steep hills and it loses power may mean that it is a too rich. And I do believe that the stock pilot is a 35. Just be careful and be sure to do your plug readings under a load. Hope this helps.

I meant to say that it may be a little rich on the needle and if you are climbing with the throttle pinned and it starts to lose power then it may be to rich on the main jet. I can't think and type at the same time. Duh.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif[/img]
