Opinion on price on Sportsman 500 HO 2nd hand
I need to buy a bike for hunting season and I ran arcross a dealer who sells Polaris new and used. He has a Sportsman 500 HO(1999) model in real good shape. It has aftermarket tires on them(Super Swamper I think he said) and it has 150 hrs. on it. It looks exceptionally clean also. He's asking $3850 for it. I checked the blue book and it retails for around $4350(but that is for a Sportsman 500....I don't know if that is the retail for a HO model or not?) Another question I have is, does the 1999 500 HO model have the independent suspension in the back or straight axle? Thanks again for the help guys and gals.

For that price, I would jump on it! As far as the IRS, I don't know if it has it or not. Look at the back of it, if the drive shaft to the left and right of the differential are angeled upward from each wheel to the center differential, IRS. If it has a straight level axle shaft, then that is not IRS. If you don't want it and it isn't too far from Eastern Ohio, I'll buy it.

Ok, I'll try and help you out. First of all there is no 1999 Sportsman 500 HO. The HO did not debut in a sportsman until 2001 I believe. I have a 2000 model, non-ho. If it is a Sportsman it has IRS. Solid axle versions were called Magnums. The price seems about right. Around where I live (southern ontario) that machine would be worth around $5000 Can. That's about $3500 US givens todays exchange. I would just be leary if they are trying to tell you that's an HO!
