The only time I checked I went 105 miles on my "97" 500 Xplorer before reserve. With K&N installed at low elevation.

For casual trail riding,I could easily go 100 miles on a tank of fuel, including reserve.==BILL

Well chances are,if your on a sp500 your being towed. So I would say that fuel economy is excellent.

I go 80 or os then fill up, but it averages 25 mpg, so over 100 should be obtainable. I use 80-90 as my cut off, so that way i don't get in any trouble. It gets better mileage than my 250 Xplorer did.

It depends on the type of riding. I know you are asking about a Sportsman 500, but my Scrambler 500 varies a lot. For instance, last weekend at a mud ride (lots of low speed, high revving), I put on 75 miles and went through about 3 1/2 tanks of gas. I have never done that bad before! So someone that rides the fire roads the whole time would do a lot better.
