how reliable are the 400 4x4 scramblers
How reliable are the 2-stroke engines in 400 4x4 scramblers. I need to know because I have never had a 2-stroke before and what all do you have to do to them to keep them in good running order. I am debating on a 2004 scrambler 500 or a scrambler 400 4x4. I also have to buy a truck too. I only have $9200 and the 2004 scrambler will cost $5200 so that leaves me with $4000 for a truck or I found a 2000 400 4x4 for $3000. I will be mostly riding in mud and want to know what would be better for me 2-stroke or 4-stroke. thanks

why dont you find a used 500 4x4, i know my uncle had a 400 4x4 and he blew the pistons a couple times, but that just could have been him. you can find a 500 4x4 for a good 4 grand, the 2 strokes are reliable (mine is), i say go for it, my freind had his stolen in PA and his misses it and really wants it back, he loved his so you will likely love yours. look on ebay or in your local want add for a used 500 4x4, .

I personally prefer the 2-stroke. It performs well stock and is very easy to mod for more power. This is my third Polaris 2-stroke and I've never had a problem. I just sold my '93 250 this year and it still ran like new. All you have to do to maintain a 2-stroke is use a quality synthetic injector oil like Amsoil and change the spark plug occasionally. The rest of the maintenance would be the same on a 2 or 4-stroke. If the 2000 is in good shape that's a fair price - if you can talk him down a couple hundred, even better. It would be wise to do a compression check on it before buying just to be safe.

mines a '99 and runs perfect, great power and goes good in the mud and creek and thats stock(pretty much). there are plenty of hop up parts from specialist companies. The only thing that chokes my goat is that either no one wants to make aftermarket plastic for polaris's or polaris won't let them. I say get a good 'ol used 400 4x4

Also for anyone who knows this his hi beam indecator light stopped working when the hi beam shot. Does the hi beam indecator not work when the hi beam is shot or what. please help if you can. thanks
