how do you change gearing in a 4x4
#1
2wd's just change the sprockets but with a 4wd that needs to have the proper ratio for the 4x to work properly what to do ? I would like to get a little more top end any suggestions?

for the 4wd to work correctly my dealer said that I couldn't change the tire size. or sprocket size. unless they were done in synch so the ratio would be the same as now so wit h20% slip in the rear tires the 4wd kicks in any otherr suggestions?

i dont think changing the clutch weights would affect your AWD. people do it all the time and never have a problem. I dont think changing your sprocket will afect it either. I changed the front sprocket on my old explorer 250 and I didn't have any problems with the AWD, dunno if i just didn't notice or it really did work ok. tires would be the easiest way to go but are a lot more money and I dont think you get a real big gearing change out of them. I'd try the clutch weights if you know your way around the CVT.

Clutch weights won't affect the 4wd.
If you go to bigger tires, get all 4 at once, and to the same ratio: For example, if your fronts are 2 inches smaller than the rears, get the new ones 2 inches smaller. That should keep things close enough to work.
