A new Polaris BEAST??

I think the 500 is good enough right now also, like ATVing I also think they need to work on shaving some weight off of all their quads. Except the Sportsman the weight on that is good, it actually helps for some things. By the way AlaskaTRX I think your the one who needs to go back to school and do some work on their grammar<----- right way to spell it.

Yep, what we’d all really benefit from is a better power to weight ratio. They’ve already demonstrated that the 500 motor has unrealized potential with the HO mods. I’m betting it could be tweaked even more and still be the reliable powerplant it is. The bike could shed some pounds, but getting more horses out of the motor would probably be easier than putting it on a diet. If I had a magic wand I’d do both.
But do you think that’s what’s going to happen? Hell no, that’s not what sells machines to Joe Public. The 700 twin will make headlines and sales just because it says 700 on it. It’s not technology and innovation that sells the majority of quads, it’s marketing, merchandising and packaging.
Will I own a 700 at some point? Probably. It’s not what I really want but it comes closer to what I want than anything else. My guess is the twin ought to have plenty of low end grunt along with power to spare throughout the band. With 3100 miles already on my ’99 SP500 in 13 months I’ll be trading it for something within a year. I will say though, if Polaris would keep the 500 in the lineup and put high/low shift on the fly on it, but leave the current stop-before-you-shift system on the 700, I’d buy the 500 instead. I’m not suggesting they’d do this, I’m just making a point about how BADLY I think they need to put shift-on-the-fly on their machines. That’s more important to me than another 200cc.

A buddy of mine who just went to Polaris school said in addition to the sportman 700 there will be a Expidition 625. I agee with most of you guys that a bigger engine should be offset by reducing some overall weight. Hey Atving, there is some excellent riding here in Fayette county, home of New River Whitewater rafting and the New River Gorge Bridge. I've been riding in the same area for 5 years and am still finding new trails.

...Heavy? yes. Powerful? yes. Will I buy one? yes. Does anyone know if they'll put a power steering unit on it? A month or so ago, somebody put in a steering assist unit. Has anybody tried it? How does it work. Probably should be posting a new topic, but I get in here like once a month now...

Look at the Grizzly I thought when that came out everyone would make 600 utilities but it did not turn out that way.Yamaha infact sell more of it's new 400 Kodiak than there 600 Grizzly proving bigger is not always better for sales anyways.
