400 Scrambler barfing coolant
#11
Like I said ealier the rad cap. My brother inlaws SP 500 HO started overheating after it was hot, we thought the rad was clogged and cleaned it and refilled the system. The next time he got it out he was letting it idle warming it up while I got my quad out and it started spewing as soon as the engine warmed up. We went and got a new cap for the radiator and it has not done it since. You could have a differant problem, but that was what fixed his.

I had my temp light come on this weekend.....and my radiator was full of muck from going through some fender high mudholes...
I usually take 5 minutes or more just spraying the radiator after a ride.....at least until the water is running clear....

Not sure what year you have, but mine did that. Then it started comin out of the seam at the top of the radiator. For me, it was just the head gasket. Kind of funny, it wouldn't pull any coolant into the cylinder, just push exhaust air into the coolant system, increasing the preasure until it blew out the seams. After fixing the head gasket, I decided to fill the coolant and see if the radiator would still leak. To my amazement, it didn't! Guess they are made pretty tough!

now that i have read this thread i think that skidlid is right it is probably your cap and that was likely my problem to other than that my cap was frozen and when my dealer put it in his heated shop it thawed out and was fine ,but if i know my dealer he would change some part so he could make a few extra dollars ,i really hate having to take anything into a dealer bacause you are really at there mercy.I would try replacing your cap first.

Just talked to Rick and he thinks it's a head gasket also. Compression from the engine is pressuring up the coolant circuit and forcing the coolant out through the bottle. My dealer did the work cause I had the bottom end rebuilt due to a water seal leaking locking up my counterbalancer and I just had him do the top. He warranties his work for six months so it will be warranteed. Thanks for all of your replys. Shawn
Oh yeah I can't stress enough how important it is to check/change your counterbalancer oil on a regular basis. That was a really expensive repair. If only I would have checked it sooner, if only I would have checked it sooner, errrrr

I'm almost embarassed to say this, but I am guilty of installing a head gasket upside down. It is very easy to do actually. It ran great for awhile before starting to blow some compression back into the cooling system and doing this exact thing. Not saying this is your problem, but the symptom you are talking about sounds like the same thing, a head gasket leak.Bubba
