Default sp 600 correct oil amount??

My buddy just changed his oil for the first time on his new 600. He says the correct amount is suppose to be 2 qts according to manual, dealer, dipstick. But after putting in 2qts the oil level measures high on the dipstick. Confused he contacted the dealer and he again said 2 qts and his dipstick should read full, not over full. Is 2qts the correct amount, and is it common for the dipstick to read overfull after a change. He put 10 miles on his machine after the oil change and it still reads high.

I just changed the oil in my 600 and had the same results. I know it was fully drained and new oil filter. After running for a few miles, it still reads high.

My 03 700 is the same way, about 1/2 inch higher than the full mark on the dipstick when cold, I guess that is the real full mark. Check after right after engine has been running, it is about 1/4 inch over the full mark.

Hello, You think this is confusing, wait until you change the rear gear case oil. The manual says it should take 5 oz, until it reaches the bottom of the fill plug threads. Mine actually took over 8 oz.

Mine came from the factory with the rear gearcase level about 3/4 inch below the fill plug, I probably added 3 oz to get it up to the bottom of the fill plug hole. The front is supposed to be below the fill plug hole, but not the rear according to the owner's manual.
