I'll be more specific. Does anyone know what it would take to convert an older sp500 rear axle with inner and outer u-joints to an all cv joint axle assembly?
1. Are the wheel bearing carriers the same on u-joint sp500s and cv joint sp500s?
2. What parts must you buy inside the transmission gearcase to convert to the cv joint axle assemblies (new sprocket, chain, etc.)?

Why would you want to "U"-joints are bullit proof many friends of mine would rather have U-joints than CV joints because of the reliability of the U joints(you look after them and they will look after you) The new Sp 's just have two grease fittings. What would you do with all the time we spend in the garage build bird houses for our wives, just kidding I work with heavy equipment and grease and oil changes are the cheapest maintenance.

When I had my 98 Sp with U joints I wished for CVs. I put over 2000 miles on those U joints (greasing after every ride) and were still original (except for one which was my fault). Now I have CVs on my 01 and have wrecked 2 boots trail riding. It's no fun replacing CV boots in a campground, but I did. Now I carry spare boots for the front and rear outers. You know what they say "be careful what you ask for".
