Default Someone has to know!!!

Someone please tell me why my OIL COOLER fan runs from the time I turn the key over, untill I turn the quad off. I know something has gone bad, ( a sensor or something) but I'm not sure what it is. If I knew what it was, I'm sure I could fix it myself and save myself alot of money. Thanks...

Are you sure your radiator isn't full of muck? I spend at least 5 minutes on mine when washing it.....you should be able to see through it.

I agree, check the fins on your cooler. The fan shouldn't be running, but if the fins are plugged with mud, it will try to run all the time. But use an air hose when cleaning out oil coolers and radiators, you run the risk of bending over fins if you use a pressure washer or high power hose attachment.

Not sure on oil cooled but on liquid there is a sensor in the radiator that tells the fan to come on. My girlfriends went out so that would not turn on. Jumpered it to run all the time until got it replaced. A dirty or plugged rad would not make the fan come on right away, it would have to run a while to get hot first for the sensor to tell it to turn on.

If the fan comes on as soon as the switch is on, when the engine is stone cold, it is either the oil temp sensor stuck 'on' or a short in the wiring.

If the fan turns on a little after starting the engine up, but then stays on, it is most likely plugged fins.

Yeah Farmr, I think you are right. I can just turn the key on and the fan runs. Does anyone have any idea where the temp sensor might be?

I think I found it. Just went to partsland.com and looked at the breakdown for the oil cooling system. The only thing I see that could be the sensor is called the thermister, and it looks like it drops right down into the radiator. $52.00 OUCH!!!

Unplug the wires going to it. If the fan still runs every time the switch is on, there is a short in the wiring. If the fan stays off, that is your defective part.
