I have a 2002 sportsman 500 HO it runs good but has a lot of vibration I've only had it a couple of mounths but seem to have more now than when I got it. I feel a lot in the handle bar's and floor boards the plastic raddles and the racks. This is my first Polaris is this normal or what should I look for a friend has a 01 500 HO scrambler and his don't vibrate nothing close to as bad as mine.

 

I'll state the obvious starting points,.. bent rim or cv Joint. Get it up in the air and put it in gear,.. watch for where the vibration is originating. Hope that helps.
(Mine doesn't vibrate hardly at all)

 

It does it sitting in netural some at idle and the higher the rpm's the more the vibration

 

it's not driveline then if it does it in neutral,.. has to be engine or engine mounts. Check the rubbers on your engine mounts,..,.. also look to see what Polaris uses for an engine dampening system,.. i didn't have time to do a search,.. but that should give you some direction anyways.

My ATV seems to operate with excessive engine noise/vibration, what could it be?

After performing the basic check of possible contact areas like frame, fenders, mudflaps, exhaust, etc. with no success, try inspecting the air filter for proper positioning. Sometimes the air filter can shift and no longer rest far enough back on the filter support, causing it to vibrate. By sliding the filter back on the filter support, the cover can secure the end of the filter to the filter support. First loosen the air filter clamp and slide the filter back so it is resting on the filter support. Tighten the air filter clamp. If the end of the filter is not secured between the air box cover and filter support, the filter can vibrate so much in the airbox that it creates what seems to be an engine vibration and an engine noise.

 

I would check engine mounts as well. Also pull the belt cover make sure things look normal there. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, take it to a dealer. These things usually run very smooth, it is one of their better points.
