What is the single biggest improvment for more speed
#1
I have a 400 2X4. I dont have any problems in the woods with my friends Yam's and Honda's but when we get out into the open, they walk away from me. Is there anything that can get my stock faster than 65 mph. I'm looking for easy solutions. Don't really want to do anything to the motor and I know a pipe would help but probably not enough. I heard the clutch is a good improvment but that wont help me go faster than 65 will it (only get to 65 quicker)???

If you don't want to do the pipe and clutch kit (which will greatly help your speed and should be done together) then change your sprockets. The quickest and cheapest speed change. Bigger in the front and smaller in the back give higher top end. You give up torque and pull on the bottom though. One tooth on the front is worth like 2 1/2 in the back. This will require changing chain length. If you only go up a tooth or two you may get away with just tightening or you may have to replace with a longer one, just want to make sure you are prepared if you go this route.

Ha Ha , I'm with you scramblered. I wanted to meet him at a trail somewhere but he doesn't seem interested. I'm new to the forum here but I have already learned what not to do. Go into another brands forum and start doggin'.

If you want more top end without the pipe, the sprockets will work. But if you gear it up, you won’t accelerate as fast and may not be happy with woods riding. Try an aftermarket air filter. That alone I’ve noticed a 1-2 hp gain and the numbers show. I’ve actually seen a 1-3 mph increase on top end with most scramblers just from a $30 air filter. And if you clean it regularly, it will stay very reliable. And if you did want the speed, a pipe really helps the scrambler. HPD or Hot Seat has a great trail setup with a pipe and clutch kit. This mod is simple and is extremely reliable. If you don’t know much about jetting, then maybe have your dealer do it for you, but great gains! I know HPD customers that have upped their scrammys to 75+ horse on gas, and they are very reliable, just require a little more care.

you can get some reeds that will help on the peak powerband for sure,
a slighty different clutch setup will help you to get top speed quickly,
an HPD helix for example,or some new clutch spring in it,gearing is also a good thing, but hummm...it is hard to tell, the biggest bang is a pipe, once that is done, every mods will fit better making the quad to go faster then,if you're running the stock aibox, just get a good oiled k&n filter, that will help.
