Who has a Scrambler 400 with mods?
I recently sold my 400EX to buy a 4x4. I ended up getting a Scrambler 400 since I didn't want to loose a lot of speed as with many of the utility ATV's. The bike had the FMF pipe, jet kit, etc with the stock clutch kit when I bought it. At the dunes this weekend the motor went shortly after I got there. Now I am debating on spending $200 bucks to get it back to where it was or if I should dish out the extra cash and go with a full on trail mods (such as Ritter's or HPD).
Since it is still sporty and 4wd I get a little of both worlds but the best of neither. Before the motor went I was considering getting something more like a Foreman, Rancher or a Wolverine to have fun with this winter since they are a little more capable in 4wd. Then when spring comes around getting something that is a true sport machine (YFZ, Banshee, Z400...). I like to ride wheelies and go fast but there are a lot more places to get muddy around here.
For those that have some mods done to there Srambler 400's I was wondering how you like it. Is it still a good trail machine?....Can you still control the power well enough to climb hills along with going through some deep water/mud? Do the mods make enough difference to make it a comparative sport machine?.....How fast is it compared to the other sport quads out there? And can/will the bike wheelie on command while moving? I realize it won't come up like my EX would but I would like it to come up easier than it does now.

I can't speak for the trail mod myself because i have the race mod.But i have seen some trail mod bikes run and they run really strong.I have a friend of mine that is getting his trail modded thru Rick Ritter as we speak. We should be putting everything back together this week, then i will let you know how it does.I would highly recommend Rick.Give him a call and he will steer you in the right direction.

Wow...that was quick!. The main thing holding me back is the CVT that Polaris is famous for; I just like to shift. But a fast auto sure would be fun to raise some eyebrows when I blow past them. To be honest this will probably be a spur of the moment decision once I get it tore down.

you ain't gonna fast with a fmf pipe first,a 2 wheel drive scrammy is faster,so if you want to keep it 4x4,don't try to hang with the top guns sport quads,if you remove over 60+ lbs,it is a great trail bike tough.
porting, pipe and reeds along heads is the ticket for the 400 scrammy to make it faster, rotating mass is a problem also wich can be solved with
a few others things, and finally let it breath a lot!
