Default oil change on the pred

ok I know this is a dumb? but when you guys change your oil on your pred, do you drain both plugs, pull the filter, and replace exactly 2.25 QTS. as the manual says and run with it till the next change or do you do it in a different method. Its seems when I change my oil and filter exactly as the manual states. Then start-up/shut-down/recheck level. It is always lower then where it should be. Has anyone else been noticeing this thanks for any advice......................

I do exactly as you say, with the exception of, I only put 2 quarts, not 2.25 quarts of oil in mine. After the start up, let run for 3 minutes to warm up engine and oil, then shut down to check level, mine has always been within the specified range of oil level. You do know, that just after you add the oil, but if you have not started and warmed up the engine, the oil level will show much higher on the dipstick because the oil has not yet been distributed throughout the engine. If you do it the correct way, and still are not showing the correct level on your dip stick, then I do not know what to tell you. Do you have or did you buy a used Pred with the Hard Rock aftermarket aluminum oil tank? If so, that oil tank holds more oil than the OEM one.

the owners manual says to only add 2 tho.. so i supose it wouldnt hurt anything since thats what they say.

First off I bought the quad brand new and it only has 27 hrs on it, secondly the owners manual does say on page 111 add 2qts then top if off if need be, on page 176 of the owners manual for the engine oil capacity it says 2.25 qts, in the service manual on page 2.18 it says 2.25 qts then on page 3.9 of the service manual it says approximately 2.25 polaris needs to write the correct info in both manuals, so what is it 2 or 2.25 is my ? thanks guys once again............

I agree that owners manual states that the capacity is 2.25 quarts, but 2 quarts happens to work just fine in my pred. The dipstick never reads low for me.

There were some slight editting errors between the owner's manual and maint. manuals. If you want ot opt for a quality aftermarket tank, get the one from CFM. They've been doing parts for quite a while, and their fit and finish are top notch. One tip when dealing with a larger tank. You need to run the machine just prior to checking the oil. The oil will drain back into the motor if you check it after the machine has just sat. Then you'll end up overfilling it. Takes just a second, but saves some hassles. That extra quart of oil goes a long way in keeping your machine happy...besides, take the time to hit the tank with the buffer....watch people get hynotized by da shine.
