Default air filter outerwear, chain problems?

Is there a difference between the performance of the outer wear of a stock air filter on a scrambler 500 and the outer wear of a K&N air filter?
Also, has anyone ever had any problems with braking their drive chain on a scrambler 500? Or the chain not staying adjusted correctly.

You can get the Outerwears on the K&N as a waterproof piece. Plus, it seems to filter better, JMO. As for the chain, mine wouldn't stay adjusted properly and it began to skip. So, I bought a new DID X-ring chain and new Sunstar sprovkets. At that time I also installed the HPD chain tensionor. After that, all my troubles went away. I haven't had to adjust the chain ever sense I put the tensionor on.

the outerwears wont keep all water from getting into the filter, but it will do the trick in most cases..i usually have to tighten my chain after 4 hard rides even with the hpd chain tensioner.the d.i.d chain is probably what helped BigBad..if you dont mind spending money id get a tensioner because it does help some, and sidewinder makes the very best chain&sprockets but they arent cheap at all..

I typically have to tighten my chain after every ride

do you have a chain tensioner rook?before i got mine i had to tighten my chain every ride pretty much, but with the chain tensioner, the chain will stay tight no matter how loose it gets.if the chain gets to loose the tensioner will push it up and it will rub on the swingarm,i usually tighten mine before it gets that loose..

Nope, no tensioner yet...I've been spending money on other things for it

the tensioner is a must if you do any jumping,it keeps your chain from breaking..

I still have the stock chain on my wife's bike and it will rattle and makes all kind of obscene noises. Mine did too until I bought an aftermarket chain and now I never hardly ever have to tighten it. It runs smooth as silk. I don't think the stock chains are all that great.
