Another thing to consider...
With GORE we know where atv's stand..and can actively fight for improvement..With Bush as president it puts 1 party in control and I'm not entirely convenced that's a good thing.Everyone blames Clinton for closures but..aren't the senators in those states REPUBLICANS and why didn't they BLOCK the action with the majority in congress they have? It reminds me of that old song "smilin' faces " ..are the Republicans really concernd or do they just want our vote ..then "screw us" ??
Gore and Jesse together in Minnesota...
Bush and who??? any takers ????

Bill
I am not a Rep. or Dem., just a voter. I went out to the sierra club website and looked at the vote for representatives from my state on the banning of ATV's from the Rafeal National Forest. Every Democrat voted to ban and every Republican voted not to ban. Some of these Democrats are from rural areas that have large ATV ownership and still voted to ban. I just can't see casting a ballot for the democrats if they want to follow Gores lead on this crap.

Actually ...I agree with you , but would carry it a step farther and Fire the whole bunch of them. When elected, people are suppossed to work for their local neighborhoods that "hired" them , not some national political platform.Too often votes are cast and positions taken just to screw the other side.
A perfect example ,here in Minnesota, Jesse Ventura vetoed a number of bills that both parties overturned...even though members of both parties dissliked them.Their reasoning..??..to show the Independent party Jesse that he had no "party muscle" behind him. This is truely government run amouck!!!
You may not like Ventura...but he would DESTROY both Gore and Bush in a debate!! I'd even bet my Honda on it!!
Back to the main topic ...we must keep on our local rep. to vote the will of the people THEY serve !!Hopefully we can show them we care enough about our sport and the enviroment, and WE are not the enemy!!
Good luck in your area...Bill

Sad to say, but while I hate the fanatic tree huggers too, alot of atv'ers troubles are self caused. So often I go riding and see tons of beer bottles and other trash strewn about. Small trees, and other vegetation trampled upon with total disregard. I used to think it was only a small number of riders that trashed an area. However, after observing time and time again, the majority would never pick up their trash when they left an area. Nor did they stick to established trails. I believe in the Tread Lightly OHV program and wished others did too. I want to keep riding too, but I also hate seeing the recklessness thats plaguing our sport. Nobody will listen to a thing we say, unless ATV'ers start acting responsibly on the trails.

In Alaska, the situation is different, though. We have so much land that the Forest Service could never enforce a closure. It is just too vast. Most of us up here also have fire-arms... somewhere, someday there would be a confrontation.
Thank GOD we have Young, Murkowskie, and Stevens on our side!!!
I vote BUSH... A vote for Gore is a vote for a gunless, roadless America, which would really, really SUCK!

AlaskaTRX don't say never, all it takes is for somebody like Gore to get in and all these big enviromental groups we have up here get a lot stronger. The Clinton administration are closing down lands without asking the senate or congress which tells me he has too much power.
Oh by the way what part of Alaska do you live in? I live in Soldotna. Isn't it great up here?
Later Guy.

Huff brought up a very very good point that we all can and should be doing when riding. Picking up all our trash and not messing things up so much. My example would be, sometimes when riding, I bring a small cooler with ice and drinks along. Instead of tossing the cans off into the woods, stop and put the empty's in the cooler. We can do these things. Huff, Since you brought this up, maybe you would like to post a main topic about this in the appropirate place so all atv'ers in here get a chance to read it. I dont want to loose my rights to drive on our land. I use superior national forest a lot. I am willing to do my share
and take responsibility for the things I can do.

Garbage and litter are just 2 idems....and in N.W Wisconsin we seem to do a pretty good job of picking up.NOISE and SPEED are what drives the "antie's" nuts here!!
WE should think twice before adding that after market pipe...I like a good running ,strong bike ,but someone who is "up north" vacationing with the kids and grandparents might not!!If you can be heard 2 miles away you are HURTING our sport!!
I have seen Banshees and EX's running on crowded trails at speeds over 60 mph. THE NONSENSE has got to stop!!I can join all the local clubs and blue ribbions in the world and we will lose our rights because of a few inconsiderate people!!
Have a safe 4th of July weekend ....
