glowing red pipe on 700

glowing red pipe
I have a 03 700 and was on the way to the duck pond last weekend about a 10 - 15 min ride. When I got there and cut off the motor and got off the machine I noticed that the exhaust pipe where it goes from two to one pipe was glowing bright cherry red. It looked like someone had heated it up with an acetylene torch. Is this normal? This does not seem very safe. Any comments appreciated

Someone mentioned this once before with a scrambler after they had put a after market pipe on it. It may just be that you rode at night and noticed it because of the darkness. I know the header pipe on my scrambler gets pretty dang hot quick. I havn't ridden at night where I would notice it glowing.

glowing red pipe on 700
When i put my hpd pipe on my scram, I took it out for a test run it was dark, I smelled something funny i looked around the pipe was glowing red hot... After a lot of cussing, when i rejeted i did not push my crab in the boot all the way...It was running Lean.
The pipe should not glow, i would check it out very good, cause if its running lean you can blow a head gasket, deform the piston.. All kinds of things..
Hope this helps...
