Yeah, the 600 and the 700 are that close in performance. The 700 might have 86 cc's on the 600, but with 10.3:1 compression compared to the 700's 9.78:1, the 600 revs quicker, feels snappier, and even Polaris says it has more torque (I guess that has to do with more compression). Plus the $ difference and the better factory clutch set up makes it more appealing and smoother to operate.

And to Hozed, 2 or 3 mph on very top end shouldn't justify an automatic win, it's the whole combination. Besides, I've had my 600 up to 64 mph, plenty fast for a sport ute. Although I haven't raced one yet, my dealership says the 600 will get the 700 out of the hole. I'll have to try soon to see.

In the meantime...yeeeeehaaaaa for Polaris!!

I have a new 600 sportsman, and I agree it is a tourque monster, but the engine is noisy, knocks and rattles at idle. It's been like that since it came out of the crate, sounds like it's going to throw a rod. The dealer says it's the normal sound for the 600. Anyone care to comment, I think it's going to blow up, but I could be wrong.

Yeah mine sounds like that too. Just the nature of the beast. 650 miles, 112 hours. AOK!

Thanks guys, I was just a little put off by the rattle/knock while at idle. It's usually not what you want to hear!! Cheers.

but it was compared to the P700.. and the 660.. last i check those are both closer to 700 than 600...
and if i ever went with a twin it would be the 600... because of price and i know they are dam near the same... i think i rather have a 500 tho.

If you suspect it is knocking that may lead to engine failure make sure you document each time you tell the dealer.
I would suggest finding out if the have an email, send it that way, and at least have this as a record.
