Default scrambler 400ex

3 of my freinds have atvs, one has a 98 scram 400 4x4, one has a 97 scram 500 4x4(with EPI clutch kit), and one has a 2002 400ex with a yoshi pipe. when we drag down a straight business road( a little ove a 1/4 mile) the scram400 can give the 400ex a run for it's money until end of 3rd-beginning of 4 gear. then the 400ex pulls away and can't be caught. the sram500 on the otherhand is heavier, like the scram 400, and 4stroke. so when they race, they stay neck and neck until beginning of third gear. i think without this EPI clutch, the 400ex would beat it either way, off the line and in the long run. but we are talking about a 97 and 98 scrammies, so the newer ones are probaly more weight and speed efficient. basically, probaly the newer ones probaly will have a better chance.
but to answer your question, i'll say 400ex, although i'd prefer the polaris because they are not as high mateniance and they kill the 400 ex in versitiity. so a machine that will keep up with a ex and still have the off road capability, is better than a 400ex anyday. (is the 400ex 4stroke, i don't think so, but i am unsure...)

it also depends on the driver if the person on the ex dont know how to shift gears well, then u should be able to beat him in a 300ft run

WEll, Al I Know is that there must be some big ***** Driving 400ex Riders around here. I Never see them Jump the jumps I do. Most of the guys just sit there and watch.
As for top speed. I have beaten every 400ex i have raced.
I Know that it sounds unfair because my Scrammy Has a HPD RACE KIT but, I have ran against A 440 big bore and killed him in a 1/2 mile race.
I'm not saying that it is a bad bike.I just think it is easier To Make a Scrammy anyway you want it.
Sorry for the one sided Thoughts.
I'm just sick of the 400ex riders thinking that there ATV is the best.
And since we have compaired the two quads it is with great pleasure to say IT WILL NEVER SMOKE A PREDATOR!!!!

i was thinking the same way as you a few weeks ago about which one is the better jumper,my buddie with his 400ex will jump off all the jumps i do but wont go as high or far so i just thought my scrammy was the better jumper,a few weeks ago we switched quads for the day and i like the way the ex feels in the air alot more than i do my scrammy,i was also going alot further and higher on the ex..id still rather have my scrambler400 over the 400ex anyday, but im thinking about selling her for a 450r or yfz450..

Don't mess with the 450s they are to new and most all first year quads have probs, like the 01 raptors and preds... Just something to think about!
