SP 500 camshaft
#1
OK, the wife's SP500 took a dump on the camshaft.
I can get a new camshaft from Polaris for $160, which is what I have always done on previous 500's, but I thought maybe ya'll might know of a better deal, possibly a better camshaft available, or maybe even rebuilding? I can't come up with anything on a web search.
Ol' Red's been using a little oil since we got it a couple of years ago, so I am going to go ahead and rebuild the top end and cam chain while I'm in it.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Comparing part #'s between '02 500 HO and '98 500, the only thing I see is that camshafts are different - they both use the same valves, springs, rocker arms, etc.
Would there be any difference between the Aaen HO update camshaft than an HO camshaft from Polaris other than price (I can get HO from polaris for $149 or Aaen for $250)??

I just got off the phone with Polaris, asking questions about the HO camshafts.
They are telling me that the HO camshaft will not have much noticable effect without changing to the bigger HO carb. Also, at the same time, they stated that the HO camshaft is not any more durable than the non HO.
Well, guess I'm going to have to keep my eyes on Ebay for the HO carb.

Quadwrench your dealer is telling you right. The best price on cams that we found was from the dealer. Hate to say but, the H.O. cams were junk. Polaris has had alot of bad ones. We have ask about the problem and they act like they never seen a cam go bad. Replace the exhaust rocker also.
