01 trailboss 325 - trans help?
This thing just started making a grinding noise in the gear box. It runs but some times it has no power - motor is ok - then it catches and takes offs. Some times the noise is there and sometimes not.
Any ideas on what it might be?
Also the small drive gear moves on the end of the shaft - is it supposed to have play in it?
Thanks for any help...

Can you get a rebuild kit for the driven clutch or do you have to buy everything separate?
Is it worth doing or buy a new clutch (250.00).
If I shake the driven clutch something in it rattles - don't know if it normal or not.
It is not the gear box making the noise.

Wireddog, the helix may have wore through the ramps (three little nylon pieces in the secondary that the helix runs on)if you don't have a clutch spring compressor, take the clutch to a dealer. The ramps are only 2-3 bucks each and take 5 minutes to change (once the clutch is on the bench)
Those bikes have a habit of slipping the chain in the trans as well.

EPI has a rebuild kit for $115. I would take the secondary clutch off. You can take it apart yourself if you have another person there to help compress the spring. You will need a good pair of snap ring pliers. You have a few options when it comes to the secondary clutch. HPD sells a complete TEAM roller clutch. OR, they also have a shift drum conversion for your existing clutch. AAEN also has a roller conversion. Or, if you want to go the cheaper route, HPD sells replacement aluminum clutch buttons.
