Default Won't start

I have a 2002 400 4x4 Scram and for some reason she won't start. I hooked up a battery tender and within a short while the light went from red to green, indicating that the battery is charged.
When I turn the key I hear a single click sound come from near the battery but it does not turn over. The lights are still pretty bright, adding to my confusion.
It will start if I pull start it.
I am new to atv's so any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks!

Sounds like your solenoid is out.It is the little black thing next to the battery.Very easy to change. You may even try to clean the connections.

CED,
Thanks for the help. Is that something I can buy anywhere (auto parts store, etc.) or do I have to go to a dealer or what?

If you here a click I doubt it's the selenoid. The starter may be shot. They can get water in them and should be drained every now and then. May need to take it apart and clean it up.

I spoke to the service guy at Teixeiras Polaris (Eric, he is really good) and he seems to think it is the starter. I have a full warranty with a zero deductible. The only problem is that the place is over an hour from my house and they are closed this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
We'll see what happens next week.

I also made the mistake of calling Cycle Motion in Middletown, NY (about 30 minutes from me). The first time they put me on hold for about 10 minutes, then someone picked up the line and hung it up. So I call back and they say the parts guy is on another call, they take my info and tell me he'll call me back. 2 hrs later I call again and I get to speak to the parts guy, he tells me that the solenoid is 55 bucks (the only way I would get it from them is if it was easy to install and saved me the trip of going to Teixeiras).
About an hour later I get a voicemail from someone in the parts department telling that they have the part I was looking for and its 55 dollars...Thanks....putz.

If you can hear click, there is a spark flying somewhere! $10 it's the starter! I've always had bad luck with polaris starters...pain in the butt. They leak water so easily...I don't know how, we've even tried to silicone the gaskets, but water comes in the recoil down the starter or something, I don't know...it hasn't failed to ruin a starter on any polaris I've owned. If you don't mind pull starting it, put in a fresh cord, buy a $20 starter block off plate, and pull the starter and throw it in the dumpster...save some weight, $300, and lot's of future hassles!

Starters can be rebuilt for as little as $50. Usually the brushes will ware out from water or just heavy use. The starter on the Scrambler is better shielded from water becasue it's on top unlike the TB starter which is dead on the bottom. You will have to take your starter off and take the back cover off of the motor and inspect the brushes. If you have a service manual, it tells you in there how to test it. I have done this before, it's either your coil is shot or your brushes. If your coil is bad, mite as well chuck the starter. If it's your brushes a $50 kit will replace them and you starter will work nice. However if you need a whole new one, you can get them for $150 - $200 aftermarket. I know of a company that sell them cheap, I've put one in a TB and it works just as good then the stock one.
