The long hose was in effect pushing the flange away from the crankcase (as if you were to grab the metal part of the hose on the flange and pull outward)

Hozed,
I'm assuming the lines you are talking about are HERE

Have you tried replacing the washers/"gaskets"? A lot of times the banjo bolts will not pull the lines down on used washers. Most of the time when I rebuild the top end on the 425's/500's - (I know they're different engines than the Pred, but the same principal) - I automatically replace the washers on the oil lines to make sure they seal - but the425's/500's are aluminum - the Pred's may be copper? (which is more durable - I've never had a problem getting copper washers to seal)

If you have aluminum washers, you can get some copper washers from the local auto parts house and try them before any radical "modifications"??

I was trying to figure out how the oil tank on the Pred tied into the engine - now I know - just look under engine mounting - duh! why didn't I think of looking there??

The EX's and Foreman's (please forgive the mention of another "make" in this discussion ) use a similar set up to tie into the oil cooler and I've had to replace the O rings with Viton O rings (don't know if that is what Polaris uses - Viton's are usually brownish tan in color) to get them to seal

Might be worth a try to save cutting the hose?

Are the ends of the hoses flared? Do they go over any kind of nipple in the engine or do they just butt up against the washer and O ring? Do the washer and O ring slip over the end of the hose?

the end of the metal oil line goes into the engine about half an inch.. then the o-ring and washer fit in there...
i suck at explainin stuff so i dont expect you to understand this...
but i thot of doubling up the o-rings.. cause 2 will fit in there (i think).. even tho there is supose to only be 1...
