You have to get a micrometer and a telescoping gauge messure the bore vs the piston find the difference.. You will also need to find out if it has been bored before... Also if it is scored bad you may need to go even bigger.. Check ring end gap that tells a lot as well... Are you going to have Rick do it? If so i think he does all the guess work for you, just send him your stuff and he will bore it to the right size.. Or you could take your jug and piston to your local machine shop they can tell you how much bigger you will need to go and they can bore it for you..

The easiest way to find out if you need a bore job is look for the cross hatches in the cylinder walls. If they are still all there then cylinder is ok. If you see worn spots then it either needs to be honed or bored. Only go .020 on the bore.

i've taken the cylinder out before but i never looked to see if it needed fixing so im gonna do it sometime in the near future. i was fixing the brakes today and since i was looking for a spot were they were leaking from i had to take off the gas tank. so since i was in the area i looked at the spark plug and it was pitch black and really crusty and wen i tryed to clean it off i couldnt get the crusty black stuff off. is this bad???
