Greg,
While I am loyal to the sport, I feel no need to be loyal to any one particular brand. I can appreciate a lifted Honda just as well as a lifted Polaris. They both break, they both have their day in the spotlight...
When we saw you at FWP, you came off as arrogant, and ALL KNOWING... Now, whether you meant it or not, I don't know.. I know you talked down about my snorkels as if I knew how to ride, I wouldn't NEED snorkels.. (Even my girlfriend commented on your demeanor) Or you might have been trying to flash some intelligent talk about something you figured I knew nothing about... As you talked about snorkels, extending vent tubes, coolant bottles, water pump problems on your Sportsman.. I just sat there letting you talk. Although, you wouldn't get into the pond on your machine until I did first... To quote you that day," I'll go thru anything YOU go thru First!"???? The next time I saw you was the AMBUCS weekend, in the middle of a thunderstorm, you were sitting in the middle of the same duckpond with a busted axle/u-joint. Remember the wrench you borrowed from me to get you out of the water?.. Anybody that knows me also knows that I will gladly share any info I can about ATVS, help tow people out, i'll even help drunk guys get sunk ones back running. (damn SHAD just swam across my freakin' gas tank!)
This ain't about braggin rights or brand loyality. We're all on this forum for one reason... ATV'S!!!...

Mudmachine,
I didn't intend to come across as arrogant or demeaning. I share information I have learned about the different ATVs because some people don't know and have to learn the way I did. If this seems arrogant, I apologize. I know you don't know me, but if you read my post, you will see I kid around to much. I don't remember what I said to you that day, but I wouldn't have said anything intentional to offend you. If I did, I owe you a beer/coke next time I see you out there.

See ya,
Greg

You Guys must feel insecure to bash a Quad that is fresh out of the wrapper. Why don't you hold judgement until Hightlifter can get their hands on a Rubicon and make it mud ready like they did with other Quads like your Sportsman. What i thought was funny was when riding at one of my favorite spots this past saturday there is a section of hillclimbs with roots and ditches and i blew past a Sportsman 335 on my wifes 2WD Rancher. The Sportsman was even in 4WD.The guy on the Sportsman started asking me alot of questions about my Rancher ES.you should have seen the look on his face when i told him it was only a 2x4.And then on the way back to the parking lot i saw a Yamaha Big Bear towing back a Polaris Sport because of a broken belt !!The guy said the thing eats belts, and this will be his last belt drive ATV.

bzizzi,
I can relate to the guy you pulled back with the broken belt that said this was his last belt driven quad.

I've also pulled out a few guys from the mud with limited slip differentials who say it's their last limited slip 4x4.====Bill

Fellas, am I in the wrong forum? I thought I was in "POLARIS" Polcat-country? I also thought that I read that Greg was racing in "serious mud" and not the desert. I guess the Honda forum is really slow. I have a Honda (300trx) too, but I wouldn't dare bring it to "Polcat-Country" LOL Polcat

The SP335 will not out run a Rancher. I don't see where anyone has said that it would. It will out mud the Rancher easily. It has much more ground clearance. It is also a much more comfortable ride, and I know it is heavy but it jumps better and lands very smooth.

As far as the Rubicon goes, unless Highlifter comes up with IRS for the Rubicon, it will never outmud the SP500. Lift kits do not add ground clearance to the rear axel. I doubt you will ever see fully hydrolic front and rear brakes come from Highlifter for the Rubicon. Tires can only add so much ground clearance. I am not bashing the Rubicon, but it is what it is. Probably a very fine reliable machine. Probably a nice ride on most trails, but it will never ride as smooth as a SP500, and it will never have the ground clearance either.

As far as belts go, if you put the SP500 in low when it should be in low, it is very hard to burn a belt. If you do it is $35. How much is a Tranny for the new Rubicon? $35????? I doubt it. I believe there are 2 classes of utility ATVS. The Sportsmans and the rest. Is it a coincidence the only 3 SP500s in the race placed 123?

It,s hard enough to blow a belt on a 90hp Polaris XC 500 snowmobile let alone a 30hp Polaris Sportsman 500 4 wheeler.

I have said in many post that the Rubicon is probably a fine machine. If nothing else it will be reliable. Why would you ask if I had a problem with it. We discuss ATVs in these forums. The Rubicon is an ATV. That is all. My personal belief is that the IRS on the SP500 is superior to anything out there for most kinds of riding. Of course if you use your bike for heavy work or carry alot of weight, it probably is not for you. For the way I ride, the SP500 is most capable. Does a corvette owner not believe his car is better that a mustang. If he did not, he would have bought a mustang. I wish Honda would come out with IRS and disc brakes. I would buy one. At least Suzuki and Artic Cat have stepped up to the plate with Semi IRS. It makes for a much smoother ride. I actually like the Rubicon but could not justify the extra $800 and drum brakes.

I have a friend that has had his SP for over a year riding hard without one problem, and I was happy with my 98SP500, thats why I bouht a 2000SP500.
