Default speedometer trouble

I have a 2002 Polaris 700 Sportsman and my speedometer quit working. Everything else in the cluster still works. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks

If your hour meter and 4wd still works, it is most likely the wheel speed (hall effect) sensor located on the right front brake caliper. I had to replace it twice on my 01 500 HO within 3,200 miles. My 03 700 has gone 1,800 miles w/o any problems. It is quite common on these machines.

When you replaced your sensor, did you you do it yourself or did a dealer replace it? I am considering doing it myself, but I am not sure how to feed it through the wire conduit without taking the front clip off. Do you remember how much it cost to replace? Thanks for the info.

Extended warranty covered it both times, so I don't know how long it would take to replace it. You can go here to check the price. Look at numbers 27 & 28 in the diagram. You may not need the cap.

Can you tell me what the difference is between 27 and 28? Do you know which one could be causing my problem?

I think the cap just goes over the sensor. It is a chrome looking piece. I've never tried taking one apart, but I think it just goes over the sensor. The sensor itself is most likely the culprit. If you'd like, I can scan and email you the page out of my service manual that shows how to test it.

if the speedo, digital odometer, AWD, and the speedo illumination doesn't work, what do you think is the problem? i get voltage on a lot of wires on the plugs at back of speedo. i also get voltage going to the front wheels on one wire.
