Default 03 Trail Boss snow trouble - Calling all tire & snow experts

Went riding today in about 15" of wet snow on top of frozen ground. My Boss is stock except for the RCR Stage One Kit. I can lick my buddies Yam 03 Big Bear 2X4 in all areas except the snow - this burns me.

I'm getting stuck I think mostly because the front skid plate (stock below the fan) is plowing snow. Secondly, and maybe as a result of the skid plate, the tires don't bite.

The Big Bear has more clearance and, if I had just a little more something, I could hang with him. Getting a different quad is NOT an option - no bashing please.

The tires are stock. Front is 23X7-10, Rear is 22X11-10 (almost new). I ride in all conditions, (hard pack, trails, mud, and scab rock with sand) no dunes.

I thought maybe chains for the snow (not sure)? I don't mind changing the tires if that's what you recommend. I just want to understand the affect (severity of the changes) it will have such as a higher center of gravity and what a new width would do to it?

Thank you,

Lukester

Put a set of Maxxis Sur Tracs on the back they will help you out quite a bit in the snow, and all around they are a great tire...

Did you say sure tracks , that is the abolute worst tire I have ever seen in snow. The real snow tires are prowedge and 4 snows. Sure tracks are mud tires.

I have a set on my 01 trailboss and they go just fine in the snow.......Sur tracs are a bi-directional tire, one way for mud and hard pack, flip them around for snow and sand.....

I had very good luck in up to 8" of snow with my MudLites in both 2 and 4 wheel drive with both my Scrambler and Eplorer 250.

the best tire for the snow is the pro wedge tire i ride in snow all the time (really deep snow) every body in my town rides in the snow and they all have the pro wedge it gives so much traction in the snow that it almost feels like your riding in gravel YOU'VE GOT TO GET THIS TIRE ITS THE BEST FOR THE SNOW good luck

I have the same problem with mine. Try studing your tires It gives you some more traction.
