Drive Clutch question
#1
Hi all,
I brought in my 99 500 4X4 Scramber in for a good going over for Spring now that it is too cold for me to ride (-25). The last couple of times that I had it out I heard the beginnings of a clutch rattle, and sure enough when I took the clutch cover off, The buttons on the spider were worn pretty good. It didn't wear into the clutch itself at all, but it is time to change the buttons.
I was looking at my factory shop manual and saw that there is a special tool to remove the clutch from the motor, a special tool to hold the clutch and a special tool to remove the spider. I do not have any of the above tools.
Is there any reasonable work around for this or do I have to take this to a dealer for them to change the buttons.
I was looking at partsland for the price of the buttons. Are they really 6.00 a piece???
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

You can make a puller to get the clutch off. The hole is 3/4" fine thread. I have heard of people using a trailer ball for this. As far as taking aprt the spider, you will need the tool for that. I would just remove the primary clutch and take it to your dealer. They might charge like $20 for labor though
