Won't Idle
#1
I have a 94 300 4x4 2 stroke. Just did a top end on it. It was siezed when I got it. It does not like to idle and needs the choke ( starter plunger) pulled to start even when it is warm. turning the slow jet has no effect. I have cleaned the carb twice, same problem. New feul filter, fresh plug, good compression, clean air filter. When it does idle, it is so high it won't shift into gear. When it goes fom in gear to neutral the RPM's pick up. Carb boot does not have any visible cracks and freash gaskets. I am running out of idea's Crank Seals?? Stock jetting I live in florida, temp today about 68, but temp does not seem to have an effect on my problem.

Have you cleaned up the clutches. Sounds like the primary is hanging up and not shifting all the way out making it grab on the belt causing drag on the motor. This would make it not want to idle unless it was real hi rpms to overcome the drag plus make it hard to shift in and out of gear.

First, a shop manual is a true asset. If not already done, pull the cover off of the clutches. The primary is on the motor, the secondary is on the tranny. The primary is driven in by centrifical force to grab the belt. If it's dirty or worn out it can get stuck partially in, causing it to grab on the belt while idling. Try starting it while the cover is off, just keep clothing and bodyparts away from the clutches. You may allready be able to see if the primary is grabing the belt before starting. If it is grabbing. Shut off the motor. Try using an air compressor to just blow all of the belt dust out of it while pushing the primary inwards. It should go in and out. Give that a go first. You can use a dry lube or molly lube to hit some of the roller and weight areas to see if that help free things up. Let us know what you find and we'll go from there.

I would think the thottle cable needs adjustment. You say when it idles, its too high, and the air screw has no effect, which means the thottle is already open. Or you have a big vacumn leak, downsteam from the carb.
