sport 400 recoil
I need some advice about a 1999 Sport 400. The recoil got stuck the other day.. it pulls out about one foot, and then stops; (the electric start hasn't worked in years.) I'm wondering if it's a complicated thing to fix, or can I just remove that right-side cover, straighten the snagged rope out, and replace the cover? I'm no mechanic! is this just a straightforward process, or will I be in over my head, once I unbolt that cover?

I haven't done much to my Scrammy since I got it except jack with the starter and recoil.(and ride, of course) But I can tell you that it is not a very difficult task to take the cover off and access the recoil. Not a big deal and not too complicated. I am no pro by ANY means. I am going to be doing it agian soon, as I have a problem with the recoil not retracting once the machine is warm/hot.
Does anyone know if I should grease the recoil or get a new spring? If so what grease?
Anyway, not a big deal. If you feel comfortable changing brake pads or just minor maintenance on a car or bike you should be okay, IMO.

I went to the dirt drags last saterday and the first pull on my sport and the handle and rope where still in my hand when it started.LOL It did nt take but about 15 minutes to fix it.Take the cover off, flip it over and you will see the starter.Take out the center bolt and it all will come apart.Make sure you put the leg back in just as it came out.Its pretty simple
