Is the SP 500 better than the Magnum 500 and why.

Beartracker, I think you'd find the answers to your questions and lots of interesting responses on chat rooms.

Just a suggestion; why don't you visit some chat rooms, such as the one hosted by the ATV Connection, as an alternative to multiple topics and posts on the Forum?

According to you, they're both pieces of crap, right? You can probably outdo both of them on your yammy. NOT!!!!!! The Sp500 and Magnum 500 are very similar, with the main difference being the rear end. The sp500 rides better, but at the price of maintenance. In theory, the sp500 should be able to go marginally faster than the mag due to the 90 degree change in power transfer caused by the rear gear box on the mag. The sp500 simply has a transfer case, and acts more like a chain drive than a shaft drive. The difference in speed and power is probably not noticable. On the flip side of the coin, the Mag is probably lighter, and the power to weight ratio would be higher, thus overcoming the shaft drive efficiency loss. I have an sp500, and love it. It's a great bike. From what I understand, the 2000 model is even better than my '99. One other point, the ground clearance on the sp500 isn't matched by any other bike, including the mag.
