I have stock tires and want a little more bottom end. Has any one tried a clutch kit on their sportsman 400 and if so which one and what kind of results did you get?

Dont blow alot of cash! Try changing to a White Polaris primary spring first.Or go with the white primary and a blue Aaen secondary.

I've only had my '04.5 400 Sportsman out a couple times but have noticed just a little flat spot at the low end in low range. Though it doesn't seem to be a big deal, I too would like to see it hook up a little stronger in the low end.

ftwflh, what results are you seeing with the "white spring" modification? Is that an easy install that can done in MY garage and not my dealer's?

When you change to a white spring it will engage slightly higher than stock and give more low end.It is simple to change just take the belt cover off ,take the big bolt in the middle of the primary clutch off, take the 6 small bolts out and there it is.Take the blue spring out put the white one in,line up the Xs and bolt it back together. Cost you all of $20.

Kushman, what do you think of the heelclicker? How do you have yours set up? I have one more question. Did you get it from Cob and how much did it cost? thanks.

Yea, i got it through Cob...158 bucks (shipping included, and it got here fast)

I love the fact that you can adjust it to whatever your particular riding is going to be

i'm using 1.2 (whatever that weight is) set screw in the shoulder (H/C reccomend)

stock primary spring

and took the secondary to a 1 to 1 ratio with stock spring (for the engine braking)

I wanted more low end for slow going, rock climbing and such....wanted engagement right off idle....

Now for more higher speed trail riding such as WNF or Hatfield/McCoy...I'll put the white spring in the primary
